Re: 52 Ford F-1 Pickup Project
Glad to see someone doing something with the hot rods. I haven't had any wrench time in a long time.

Re: 52 Ford F-1 Pickup Project
Got the motor "in" just have to do some assembly to check for clearances, and then I will get to finalize everything. I have tons of room above the motor, but will have to run a smaller oil filter or oil filter relocation kit. The trans crossmember I had hopes of keeping with the stock brake setup had to go to make it happen - so I will be looking into a firewall mounted brake setup after I get everything cleaned up and finalize the mounts.

Re: 52 Ford F-1 Pickup Project
some more progress...
Officially Registered, approved for 1952 plate.
Lucky me
Got the disc conversion done, but have everything else still to install and run.\
Got some more of the engine assembly done. Spent more time researching/sourcing parts than I did putting them on... all new fasteners which also took a while to measure out and locate, but saved $ over the kits.
Transmission is in the shop being rebuilt and beefed up, but I have plenty of things to do in the mean time....

Re: 52 Ford F-1 Pickup Project
overcame plenty of obstacles just to get a few things done... Waiting on shorter brake lines, found a set of hoses after several attempt that would work for the radiator, and got some more of the hard lines ran (still need to do connections), and overflow tank all set up.
Tank should be done being cleaned Tomorrow, and my brake lines and splitter should be in also. Will be fabbing up a raised trans cover in the near future, and have plenty more boxes to check off the to do list.
The passenger side header has been fighting me, nothing impossible, it is just frustrating trying to get them started in the right sequence and tightening them a quarter turn before the wrench hits the side of the pipe... Have not got mad enough to dent the pipe for clearance, but that is next...

Re: 52 Ford F-1 Pickup Project
Brake lines plumbed (but a few are leaking a bit). Trans tunnel modified for clearance. Had to get 1 of the headers belt sanded smooth and all kinds of shaving and hammering to get the bolts lined up and header on, but after way to many hours it is on there and looks to be flush enough to not blow out the gasket.
Too many obligations lately, but my karma bank should be filling up.
Need to figure out an alternator bracket setup, get a belt, have a driveshaft made so I can fill up the trans, and it should be firing it up soon. Sure wish I was closer to you guys so I could get some help when I go to fire it up to make sure I am not doing something (or not doing something) that could damage it.

Re: 52 Ford F-1 Pickup Project
got it fired, the only drama in doing so was I had the outlets on the fuel pump hooked to the wrong hole... thanks to see through fuel filters it did not take too long to figure out.
Starting to untangle the birds nest of wire, goal is to set up the fan, get a muffler on it, and break in the cam in the not too distant future. Than it is off to the trans shop for the kickdown and linkage to be fine tuned, and I should be burning some rubber.

Keep up the good work! How close is the engine to fire-up time?

P.S. Love the suicide ball on the steering wheel. My gram ran one of those in her old black Ramcharger.

Re: 52 Ford F-1 Pickup Project
engine is running, set cam. Having trouble getting all the air out of cooling system.
Need a driveshaft, gas pedal, and a few odds and ends to have a parking lot driver.

Re: 52 Ford F-1 Pickup Project
I have tried a lot of things to solve this problem. The thing that worked best for me is jack the front of the car up and use a pressure release cap. Let is build up some pressure and bleed it off a little at a time. This is a problem that is very conmen in cars with the radiator fill higher than the engine.

Re: 52 Ford F-1 Pickup Project
Slowly but surely coming along... Got some more wiring untangled, installed carb spacer and mechanical fan, figured out I had a bad proportioning valve and swapped it out for a wilwood - but the fun of rebending flaring and chasing leaks when trying to bleed is commencing. Took a "brake" from the frustration and started throwing some odds and ends on.
Just need to bring it in to have the kickdown set, trans cooler plumbed, and driveshaft made and I will be good to go. Hoping to squeze the $$ to do some burnouts before winter.
