FAIRFIELD TWP. — Police say drag racing was the cause of an accident that sent two teenage girls to area hospitals Thursday.

The driver of a Jeep Wrangler, Danielle Anderson, 16, of Morgan Twp., and her passenger, Brandy Johnson, 16, of Okeana, were injured following the crash just after 2 p.m. on Ohio 4 near Allison Avenue.

The Jeep was struck when the driver of an Acura Integra, identified as Gage Kinney, 16, of Colerain Twp., was allegedly drag racing with a black Porsche driven by Christian Vollmer, 17, of Monroe. The Porsche and Acura drivers, headed south on Ohio 4, reached speeds of approximately 80 mph, Fairfield Twp. police Chief Richard St. John said.
