Thanks magicman
There wasn't any captions for these photos and what was there was in Spanish, so by identifying it you help tell the story better of life on the highway.

I wouldn't mind seeing the USA on a motorcycle but not with your
wife and baby. You would get better gas mileage. I hope they
at least stayed in motels.

Oh well If you did see that sign that stated "No Vacancy" I guess you just got
back on the highway kicked back and tried to enjoy it.

Coal Hill Summit marker on Lakes-To-Sea Highway.
This 1930s vintage photo was taken on what is now PA 350 in Centre County. The Lakes-To-Sea Highway at the time was US 322 which succeeded PA 5's designation.

Re: Life On The Highway
In 1919, the Transcontinental Motor Convoy , a military expedition, used the Lincoln Highway to cross the country from Washington, D.C. to San Francisco, California. They averaged fifty-eight miles per day to test the U.S. Military’s ability to move material and personnel across the country overland using motorized vehicles, in the event of war with an “Asiatic Enemy”.
One of the participants in the endeavour was Lieutenant Colonel Dwight Eisenhower who later, as President of the United States, began the Interstate Highway System when he signed the Federal Highway Act of 1956. He described the conditions through Southwest Wyoming at the time as “very poor dirt roads” and said that much of the path through Utah and Nevada were little more than wagon ruts through the desert. Much of the original Lincoln Highway through Uinta County here is still dirt road.

That's a good one. How about, I wish the state would buy
more than one portable toilet in these rural areas.

I don't know what they are waiting on but I've always wished we had kept those style of license plates.

It's a canvas water bag. My dad still has a couple of them. If carried them, you didn't want them inside the car because they sweated. If you were out west, especially, you wanted them because there is a whole lot of nothing out there in places.
