Leave the hood emblem on or take it off?

You can topcoat with urethane clear after the chrome clear. As long as you seal the edges of the chrome clear with urethane clear I think it would wear like any other BC/CC paint job.

There's a pair of Chevys from up in Michigan the have the bumpers painted. They've been all over the country and the internet. I've seen them at the Rebel Run, Ducktail, and the Pileup. One's a blue 2 door like your old four door and the other one is a 54 BelAir that's bright green with a silver top. I don't know if they used the same stuff but it sure looked good. That powder coating place up in Piqua has a finish that's a glossy silver that doesn't look too bad.

Powder coating is tricky on them old parts. I have found the out gass causes pitting on the part. You have to use there putty to fill them or just grind it out. You have to preheat the part for it to out gass. Very tuff stuff..We did empty pepsi can. Crushed them! It still didn't come off!

Yeah, up here we have Aesthetic Finishers. They're about 15-20 miles north of Dayton. They have displays at all the big shows in a pretty wide radius. They're set to be able to do something as long as a dragster frame. I talked to them about bumpers last year someplace and if I remember correctly it was about $150 to do a bumper. That's about a quarter of the cost to chrome one and it looks pretty good.
