I remember when..... Empty I remember when.....

I use to get a kick out of hearing old dudes telling stories. Some where in the story it would be said that "None of this was here then" or "it use to not look like this" All those stories are starting to sound like mine now a days.
Butch and I were running around the other day and drove behind the floodwall in Dayton. Both of us were shocked to see that the road is gone! I'm sure some of the locals already knew this. It had been years since I was back there.
For a few day I kept thinking of the changes that has been made since I first started driving. Think of all the time we spent behind the floodwall. It was most of our unwind time on the weekend. Most of us would end up down there hanging out sometime during the weekend. It was a place that we tested a new engine. I remember Ronnie running us through the circle because we was going to fast to make the road. We turn it straight that night, right through the grass. lol.. It was a place some of us took our first dates. If we got lucky there was no second date. Some girls were just too easy. A place where we raced. I remember having a big group of cars and racing for hours. No one ever screwed with us. You know the cops knew what we was doing. I remember one night Pat with the Nova lost control and ran up on the flood wall trying to race Jimmy Holand and when Pat came flying off the flood wall he was about 3 feet from knocking the dog house off my 69 Pontiac ragtop. One of my favorite spots to go and do a few donuts in the parking lot. Hanging out untill daylight some nights was normal. Hell, the cop Paul Smith even cought Amy and me in my van sitting in the circle one night and was giving me some grief.
It funny that none of these places even get thought about untill they are gone. To see the paved road gone and a no trespassing sign up just seemed so strange.
So I guess when my grand kids are playing in a big fancy park behind Dayton floodwall I can say I remember when none of this was here and we use to .......................

That story sounds eerily similar to the stories that I could share about the old road side park that used to be on U.S. 27.
