Gonna Be A Busy Week
Got a lot on tap this coming week.
Should get delivery of a new DS floor pan for my brother's Jeep J20 tomorrow. Gotta get that installed.
Ordered parts for the Camaro that need to be installed: Both PW motors, a wiring kit that solves the voltage drop issue on Gen IV Camaros/Firebirds passenger motor, new speaker kit ( a couple of the speakers have been blown for a while now), and an ipod adapter. Also have to install the oem radio back in the '03 Venture and install an ipod adapter.
Coming home from Cruising the Judy last night, the active handling in the Vette started acting up and engaging while driving in a straight line going about 75mph. Made the car dart right & left. Had to manually disengage the electronic handling. Looks like it's either a steering position sensor or the electronic brake control module (could also be yaw sensor and wheel sensors but not likely). My diagnostics aren't throwing any codes so that makes it a bit of a pain. The most common part that goes bad is the steering sensor. It's the least expensive too ($65 delivered), so I have one ordered and will be pulling the column to get it in once the part arrives. Note to self: Do not set off the steering wheel air bag. If that doesn't solve it, the electronic brake control module is coming out and getting sent off for a rebuild.
Just a bunch of small stuff that'll last all week if not longer.
Should be working on some projects around the house, but they'll have to wait.

Makes me feel like a cave man when you start talking about all those electric do dads. lol.
Stink it went south on the way home. I'm sure it's an easy fix just finding what is bad may take a few minutes.

Re: Gonna Be A Busy Week
You're not a caveman. It's all still put together with screws & bolts & welds & glue. Just like evrything else any gearhead does, you learn it out of necessity or you're at the mercy of the stealerships.
The active handling failure didn't cause any real problems. We didn't even stop or slow down, just held the button down & went into manual mode. I really don't think the problem is new. When I had it at Mid-Ohio earlier this year, I noticed that the display flashed "Active Handling Warming Up" several times and it was over 90* ambient and well over 100* on the track. Shouldn't have been doing that. The thing of active handling coming on and moving the car around was altogether new to me. The cruise control has had some funny spells too. Just kicks off for no reason & it turns out that when active handling kicks in it shuts off the cruise, so whatever was going on has just gotten worse.

Sounds like a PITA, Ken. Sorry to hear about the busy week ahead of you. I'd liek to do that voltage mod to both my '02 and '99. I think you can just get the regulator separate. Those F-Body motors are a real pain to change out.

Lee, it's an autotrix window fix kit. Picked it up from the WS6 store for about $38 delivered. Requires running a bit of new wiring through the firewall, but while I'm in there I'm doing it right.

That's it! Thanks, Ken. Once I'm working (hopefully soon) I'll have to get this.

Re: Gonna Be A Busy Week
Got the floor pan this afternoon. Tore into the Jeep & when I got the seat & mats out it was worse than anticipated. Got the new pan welded in but I'm going to need some more sheet to get it finished. Guess I'll go shopping tomorrow morning. I'd like to get it finished tomorrow - we'll see.
Cleaned up all of the grounds under the hood of the Vette, coated them with dielctric grease & put it back together. Took a ride and activated the cruise control & it worked fine. Active handling didn't kick in unexpectedly either. That might have fixed it but I have the steering wheel position sensor coming just in case.
The parts for the Camaro may not be here until next week. The holiday weekend has shipping delayed on everything I ordered. Some parts are coming from Cali, so it's a waiting game for now for the Camaro.

Re: Gonna Be A Busy Week
11:00 am & all I've accomplished is getting a piece of sheet.
Went up to the Metal Mart near Tri-County. 18 gauge galvanized 22" x 10' cost me $63 with tax. They wanted $20 to turn the power on to their shear, so I just rolled the piece in half & it fit in the back of the van fine. Gonna have lunch, do a little shopping at Harbor Freight for some cutoff wheels and grinding discs & then I'm going out & shoot some trap this afternoon.
I'll get back on it tomorrow.

Re: Gonna Be A Busy Week
Finished welding up the passenger side today. Guess I'll try to finish it up tomorrow.
Camaro parts won't all be here until next Tuesday or Wednesday & I'm not tearing into it until I have all of the parts in hand.
Active handling acted up very briefly in the Z06 tonight kicking the cruise control off once on the way back from Milford. When the steering position sensor gets here it's getting R&R.

Re: Gonna Be A Busy Week
One step forward, two steps back. Got the Jeep floors finished. The thing has had an oil leak for several years now, so I tore the front of the engine down to get the timing chain cover off and replace the front seal, front cover gasket, fuel pump gasket, & oil filter housing gasket. Got it down to needing to pull the balancer and ran out of gas. Back at it tomorrow.
Did get the steering sensor for the Z06 yesterday from FedX.

Re: Gonna Be A Busy Week
Nice work on the Jeep floors, Ken. And that's a good call to get all of that engine stuff out of the way while you are at it.
Have you checked any Corvette boards to see fi anyone else has had issues with the Active Handling? Just curious...

Re: Gonna Be A Busy Week
Yep. Lots of people with active handling problems. It's usually the electronic brake control module that needs to be repaired & on a rare occasion it's a failed yaw sensor. The Active handling issue I had is a fairly common. Quite a few folks have fixed it by replacing the SWPS.
Should only take 2-4 hours to do the job.

Re: Gonna Be A Busy Week
Alright, thanks for the info. At least you have plenty of info to track it down and repair it. A bit surprised taht it's not a recall item if it's that popular of a fail.

Re: Gonna Be A Busy Week
Got the front of the engine torn apart. I guess the Jeep 360 is actually a ford engine. Certainly looks like one. Timing chain had so much slack in it I could make it skip a tooth. Ordered a chain & gear set and an oil pump rebuild kit. May as well redo the pump while it's off the truck. Parts are suppose to here tomorrow. Popped the old seal off the front cover and popped the new one in. Called it quits for the day.

It sure is. I should have sprayed some degreaser on it & pressure cleaned it first. It'll take me a week to get the junk off my hands once I'm finished.
How's the back? Saw where you said it went out on you. Anything I can do for you?

Got any flexeril? Prescription that relaxes the muscles so it doesn't hurt so much.

Re: Gonna Be A Busy Week
Ipod parts arrived this afternoon, so since I quit early on the Jeep today, I figured I'd install the OEM radio back in my wife's van and add the Ipod hookup. Just finished it up. Works like it should now. Radio & Ipod will play in the ignition switch accessory position, radio/Ipod will continue to play after the ignition switch is turned off (timed to turn off like delayed headlamps). Buttons and display are large enough for me to be able to see what's going on & display brightness is tied to dash light dimmer.
The radio that was in the van was one my wife bought and had installed at Best Buy. I guess it'll do just about anything, but you have to use a remote to make things happen, & that's too complicated for me while I'm driving. All is good now with the van as far as tunes go.
