Gearhead Gathering 2010
It was a really fun time. I was impressed with what John B wrote on the CCC Forum so I just pasted here. I'll add my 2 cents in a little later.
People keep asking, is this a car show or a cruise in or is it a club meeting. I just say "yeah thats what it is but it's really not any of those"
It's a Gathering, you just have to experience it to understand. It's not about the cars, although it's cool if you drive yours there. It's about the people. The Gearheads if you will. It's about seeing old friends, meeting new ones and getting wound up to start a new season of cruisin' and showin'.
This years Gathering was another success. How do we judge that? By the laughs we hear and the smiles we see. If only 3 people show up and those three people have a good time, then it's a success. But rest assured, we had more then three people. With a lot full of cars and mingling people, you can be positive that we had a crowd.
The location this year was a nice change. Although it's not in Carter County, it still felt like home. The people from the Hademan/Hayes Crossing Community Center were very nice and helpful. So much, that our club gave them a small donation to help towards their Easter program.
The food was well received. I'm guessing that the majority of the people went back for seconds. There was very little left to bring home after all was said and done. With such a nice day it made it hard for us to get everyone gathered up in one spot to make announcements, so after awhile we gave up and left everyone to relax and enjoy the great weather.
We'd be remiss not to mention our friends from the Mobsters C.C. and the support and input they had on this years Gathering. We appreciate their partnership on this venture and hope they enjoyed working with us as much as we did them.
I'd also like to mention The Scroungers, The Brothers McGillicutty, Dedicated and Iron City. All clubs who came out and support fellowship and the concept of clubs coming together to make our lifestyle better.
Of course there we people there who were not members of clubs and we thank them as well. It takes all of us working together to make this hobby the best it can be.

Re: Gearhead Gathering 2010
On the way down I ran into Eddie on the side of the road having carb problems. He was really close to his house. We got it going and he ask do you think I should take it back home? I said no I'd drive it on down and blow the cobwebs off it. He grinned and said lets go. Eddie's young into hot rodding and not taking the easy way out put him a few notches above for getting the car to the meet. That is all part of hot rodding. We had the hood open on a few cars getting them to go before the day was up. Having a hot rod and being able to keep them running is all part of this hobby. Dead batteries, bad carbs it doesn't matter if there are a few hot rodders around we will get ya going and make sure you get home.

Re: Gearhead Gathering 2010
Cassanova and his crew pulled in. The4y had some of them in the limp. It was funny to see these guys get out of that car. It looked like the Hell Angels Enforcers with their Pres in the back.
It was good to see Greg and his family down there. Gauge is going to be a gearhead for sure. Greg was talking about the pedal car he built for him before he was even born. It's truly in his DNA to be running around in something cool when he gets older.

Re: Gearhead Gathering 2010
Everyone knows how much I love old buildings. The meeting place was one of the coolest places I have seen this year. It was an old school that burned to the ground. The only part they could save was the gym. The place would have been bulldozed over but a group of people pulled their money together and bought it and use it for functions for the city. The ruins are still hooked to the other side and I could have spent hours sitting there just soaking it all in. I would love to have a place like this to turn it into a house. The ruins would have made a cool courtyard with what was left of the walls.

Re: Gearhead Gathering 2010
The gym was still intact and me and Phil even palyed some basketball against the youngers guys. We smoked them but I bounced my head off the rock wall once trying to save a foul ball and me and Phil both about had a stroke trying to keep up with the young pups. It was fun though.
Everyone seemed to love the southern style food. There was seconds for everyone and thirds for some others. I'm not sure what all they put in that stew but it was good!
Thanks to Bailey and his crew and everyone else that showed up. It was a good way to get the cruising session started. Oh yeah, the meeting was about what we and others were doing this year. I will be posting up some runs that we may want to do so keep an eye out.

Re: Gearhead Gathering 2010
If you are a grease monkey or a hot rodder, this is a must attend event. Janet, Gauge, and I had a great time. This was our first Gearhead Gather, but hopefully not our last. I would like to thank both the Carter County Cruisers and Mobsters Car Club for their hospitality.
As an added bonus, there are some interesting sights to see in Eastern Kentucky!

Damn Steve, that old shool is pretty damn cool. It is great that they saved the ruins instead of bulldozing them down.

Re: Gearhead Gathering 2010
I can't say thank you enough to you guys who came down. I sincerely hope you had a good time and got enough to eat. We're going to be talking to the people who own this building about doing another event there. This one to help raise funds to improve and help with upkeep on the building.

I have a soft spot for those Buicks. I had one of them back in the day. It had the "monster" 215 V8. I didn't care much for the automatic, though. Neat little cars.

Yeap. I agree. I'm going to play it by ear. I have a lot of stuff going on but I guess I'll wait to see how the day looks before figuring it out for sure. I'm not sure if I want to be that far away from the house with my mom not feeling well either.Roller Coaster wrote:I wouldn't mind going, had a good time last year, but Grayson is a long haul.

Sorry Guys, but we've moved it from year to year for awhile. Gives everyone a chance to have it closer to home.

Don't be sorry, there is no apology needed. Geographically, the Carter County Cruisers are just located in a different part of the state than I am. I intend to come down an support your automobile related events (car shows and cruise-in), but in my pea sized mind I can not justify the two hour drive for a good conversation.
