Re: Old license plates (campbell & kenton)
I bought a 1946 Campbell county license plate from a guy at the KYANA Swap Meet last weekend. He had several vintage Campbell county license plate ranging from $15.00 to $30.00. I believe he was from New Albany or Jeffersonville, Indiana. I picked up a business card if anyone is interested in his contact information.

Re: Old license plates (campbell & kenton)
Not even the cops know the law when it comes to this old plate deal. YOM is what it's called. Year Of Manufacture.
The Ky State law that allows us to run ANY YEAR TAG is KRS/186-00/043
You do not register your old tag like some states do. You have to get historical tags. Once you have them you can put a 1966 tag on your 1966 Ford or whatever. Keep your historical tags in the trunk in case you get pulled over. Most people put the tag year of their car on. like 55 tags on a 55 Chevy. But the way the law is written you don't have to even do that. I ran 1961 tags on the 34 Dodge for a long time. I have been running these old tags on almost all my cars. I started 17 years ago when I put them on that old 67 Pontiac wagon I had. I have never been pulled over for the tags and when I have been stopped for speeding or what have you they have never said anything about the tags. I have 1980 tag on my 1980 FireChicken sitting in front of the house now. You are suppose to be doing something other than daily driving with these tags. Car shows, Cruise in, maintenance or something along those lines. If a punk cops stops you, you can say you are going to the car wash to wash the car or stop here and we will have a two man car club meeting. LOL case closed. They are not going to say anything anyways. Like I said I have ran these for years.
Here is a brief run down and a link if you want to look through the KRS for the law.
YEAR OF MANUFACTURE LICENSE PLATE USE - Registration not offered, but display permitted:
VEHICLE QUALIFYING AGE: 25 years old or older
VEHICLE TYPES QUALIFYING FOR YOM: all motor vehicles twenty-five (25) years old or older, which are used primarily for exhibition in shows, parades, tours, and other special uses, but not for general transportation.
MUST TYPES MATCH:

MUST NUMBER CLEAR:
NOTES: "Historic vehicles may display an authentic Kentucky license plate, twenty-five (25) years or older, or a reproduction of such a plate, if the historic motor vehicle plate and the registration receipt are kept in the vehicle at all times." A copy of the law may be downloaded in PDF format from Kentucky's site at http://www.lrc.ky.gov/krs/186%2D00/043.pdf

Hard to see it in the picture but that's a 1980 Supreme Court tag on the back. This picture was taken the other day.

Re: Old license plates (campbell & kenton)
The state of Kentucky did not issue a license plate in 1947, they only issued a Kentucky Department of Revenue windshield decal that "signifies payment of 1947 registration fee." Therefore, I plan on running a 1946 license plate (more than likely the year the vehicle was sold) with a Kentucky Department of Revenue windshield decal for 1947. From what I can gather this was the way it was done in 1947 since people were afraid to drive without license plates on the vehicle.
As a side note, the state of Kentucky issued a Kentucky Department of Revenue windshield decal in 1945, 1947, 1948, and 1952. They are extremely rare, but there were special issue plates available during these years (i.e. Dealer, Governor, etc.).

I'm running a 55' Plate on my F100. I think it fits it better then those ugly Historical tags.

Re: Old license plates (campbell & kenton)
I was on my way to TN when I saw this place called Pioneer Antiques , thats located on 127 South , Jamestown,KY -
What caught my eye was a Texaco sign but once I got in there I bought a couple plates. One a 1972 Larue County plate and the other a 1951 Fayette county . Here's a few pictures of what he had out on display.
Ever seen a 1923 Dealer plate..they say it's sorta rare.
If I would have had the extra money, I'd have picked this one up for Steve, so he could have a spare.
