Cole's choptop elky
We'll I decided to start on chopping the top on my elky this afternoon here's some pics of my progress.
I did take measurments
here's it before any chopping started
Marking my cuts
No turning back
here's it after making all the cuts
Here's how far off the window is when rolled up to where it should be.
Here's how much lower the top is compered to where the window used to be

I'm going to borrow my brother's welder so I can get every thing tacked up then double check all my measurement so that nothing is to far off.

On the front I'm going to just lay it back so I can us the stock windshield. On the back I got to massage the metal so I can fit it back in the opening. On the side I think my cheapest option will be to make the glass out of plexyglass. I'm going to smooth the quarterglass.

Actually it will line up pretty close when you pull on it. I can't wait to get a welder so I can make some real progress.

Re: Cole's choptop elky
I actually have thought about chopping it a little more but I'm running out of head room. but I think it looks good just the way it is. That and I don't want to have to battle trying to make a seat work in there. Maybe one more inch but that would be it.

Well I got my rear pillers tacked up. Took some more measurement of the roof and And it look like I want have to make it longer or shorter. Know I just have to get the pillers welded up and rebuild the opining for the rear glass.

I made some progress on my chop today I got the rear window to fit. Now I just have to build a new lip for it.

Re: Cole's choptop elky
I was hoping to post on here about how I had made a window lip for my rear window. atleast that was the original plan but nothing ever goes as planned so here's what happened.
The wooden piece was supposed to be a metal brake but the wood wasn't strong enough
So I had to bend the metal by hand.
It didn't make perfect right angle so I had to pick it up and rebend so I could get a measurment for where to cut.
After I cut it I put it over the a piece of angle iron so I could make the bend sharper.

Re: Cole's choptop elky
After hammering a the bend sharper it flatten the metal a little bit.
I then had to bend it by hand into a right angle.
So know I had a straight piece of metal with a 90 degree bend.
So then I did some cuts so That I could try to bend it in to shape.
They only problem is that I couldn't get enough cut to make a good smooth bend.
So know I got to come up with a better way to make this lip. The one Idea I had was to reuse the old lip and just add some metal so it can sit further back.
