I've rode dirt bikes and a four wheeler for years on the farm. I've been wanting a bike but have always spent my money on cars. I found this today. Right in my neck of the woods. I need to finish my chevy truck and get the impala running so that I can sell them.

Coming from a guy who has owned 5 Iron heads.. You have to be an Iron Head to own an Iron Head... They are a love hate relationship.. Good luck and keep me posted...I miss mine everytime I go riding and don't have work on it first....

You either love them or hate them.. I love to hate them.... An Iron head is the only bike I have ever ridden that runs great even when mechanically they should never run (if that makes any sense).. Meaning that even when they are worn out and should be shot they will still run........

Depends on the extent of a rebuild.. The most problems are with the trans, and since they are in a combined case i.e. engine and trans are all in the same container.. The trans trap door and top hat bushings are usually the issue's..Sporty's usually cost the most to rebuild because they have 4 cams instead if 1 like an evo/shovel ect, where twin cams, newer ones have 2 .. And in order to to them right you should have the cambushings which are in the cam cover on the left side of the engine peoperly aligned with the left case.. If your bottom end is sound the a ring and hone are all you need which is'nt much as long as your cylinders are with in range.Just a lot of veriables when it comes to a sporty, You can find a good evo sporty cheap, I found a 87 883 with 2500 miles cherry bike for $2300 for my brother-in-law..All he needed to do was put gas in it and ride.. Ironheads are good bikes they just usually need work, beacause every swinging (BEEP) thinks he's a Harley mechanic, and a sporty's are usually on the low end of the price scale, which means that most are not the lawyer doctor indian chief kinda guy who can afford to take it to the dealership to have it worked on.. So they work on it them selves and screw everything up..You may find a shop to do a top ende for $500 t0 $800 depending on materials used, Good cometic gaskets vs. cheap imports, Good Pistons vs. Tedd cycle V-Twin Import Junk... It all depends.. I would just do your homework before you pull the trigger..Try checking out www.JOCKEYJOURNAL.COM and ask a few guys on there.. If it was me and I did'nt have to have an IRON HEAD I would look into an EVO Sporty 883 if your just building/wanting a around town bike and are not planning on picking up a onetonho at the local bar and heading off into the sun set with a Bob Seeger song playing in your head.. Usually more reliable, trans parts are stronger, better quality castings, and overall better bike in my opinion...Let me know if I can help out any, once again this is my opinion not endorsed by anybody but me....

EVO sprtys started in 86,, The first year evo's where 1100 cc 5 Speed ( I think?? getting old sucks)Chain drive not sure if they made smaller 883 then. The 1100 used the same "bathtub" design head like the 5,0 Mustang Heads of that time.. I know this cause I had one and they are screamers... I will try to find a pic of it..Ryan

I have a 94' HD XLD (5spd.mdl.) 13kmi. New tires,New tail lights and control modual,new throttle cables,new spdo cable, tuned up,just serviced ..org/ paint, very clean bike...ready to ride! $3k. consider trade for 30-40 ? pu truck project roller,running? ratrod? .. sidecardave
