Re: My gokart
There was a 10 HP sideshaft motor on CL in Colerain that would work.
Also take a look at Harbor Freight. They have 6.5 Hp honda clone engines that you can score for $99 that would be great for that size go cart. They have 1 yr warranty and you can buy extra yrs.

Re: My gokart
Aryan if you want that engine and trans out of the Ford truck you can have it. If you sell it you can use the money to get parts for your gokart.

Re: My gokart
Check CL for tires, there are constantly guys parting out old garden tractors that have tires for sale. I know of a guy in N. Ky that does it, also a guy in Okeana Oh that has tons of tractor parts. The go kart clutches are $$$$ though, I was looking into them for another project. OUCH!!!

Re: My gokart
You look like you have a need for more speed then a push mower engine, but I do have one if it helps.

You can tell the nut don't fall far from the tree. Young man gets a new ride, first thing he does is take a sawsall to it.
Lookin' good Kyle!

Re: My gokart
When do you want the motor? I have to get rid of it before September 23rd.

Re: My gokart
If you are planning on just mounting motor and dropping on chain to wheel sprocket, a regular push mower motor will not work, they are vertical shaft meaning up/down. You need a motor from an old rototiller, lawn tractor, even a power washer that has horizontal shaft. You could possible use a vertical shaft if you come up with some type of 90* gear box, but that would require some fab work to get it to work correctly.

Re: My gokart
That is what I was thinking. He needs to figure out the clutch stuff. I think that will be the biggest issue.

Re: My gokart
Normally they use a side shaft motor with a centrifugal or friction clutch. Other than finding a 90* gear box that can spin pretty fast, not sure how to use a vertical shaft motor.
Junkyard Jeff has his Sears Customs old tractors, they use a 90* box on top of the mowing decks as tractors used the side shaft motors, but vertical pulleys/shafts on the decks. Maybe something like that if you can "scrounge" up the parts

Re: My gokart
cut the rear out of a lawn mower and mount the engine close to the rear end. you will have to find a shorter belt since your moving the engine closer to the rear end but you can get smaller and bigger pulleys to make it go faster. find the right pulley setup and it will fly, and you can put big knobbies on the back!!
