Re: 1948 Ford COE Project Bull Dog
I will keep that in mind.....I gotta stop on this for a while....and get back on mamas 59 Apache...before see beats me again....took a few pics when I got home tonight....stripping down the 454 and sending the heads out to be done...new cam, timing, oil pump and new gaskets....and installing a dual plane intake and sending 4LE80 out for a rebuild as well.......TAHOE wrote:Looks sweet, I love those old bigger trucks like that.
If ya ever need an extra hand lifting, install motors, whatever, just hollar. I've like 15 mins from Trenton, evenings, weekends, whatever, just yell.

I toyed with the idea of a short COE...But I want that wedge tow truck.....IH are neat looking......I ordered my Borgensen joints and a double D shaft.....Pulled the Glass, it's all being cut now...so by the end of the weekend, I hope to have the Cab mounted, Steering Hooked up, and start the welding/fab on the Cab.....
Re: 1948 Ford COE Project Bull Dog
Just stumbled across this post..... I love it... as for the vote- whatever, you can't go wrong whichever way you go. I love these old cabovers. And it don't matter what brand... seems the uglier everyone else thinks they are, the more I like them. Get 'er done. At least enough to drive it. That's one problem common around here- guys see all these over the top vehicles that come from out west with unlimited budgets- screw that stuff... pick an outcome that you want to end up with that is realistic, settle in, get to work, and make it so you can drive it. Don't set your aim so high that it takes untold years to finish it and make it "what you want." Make it yours, and have fun with it... much more important to enjoy it, than it is to use it for a yard ornament.

Re: 1948 Ford COE Project Bull Dog
Got a few more hours shop time, recut inner fenders to fit GMC frame and attached the rear of the fenders to the cab, installed one of my other hoods that came with it.....just a little more fitting and make a support to hold the radiator U and then start thinking of radiator mounting and mounting the BIG BLOCK between the frame

That's great! Glad to hear it's not going to get a "proper paint job." This looks awesome the way it is. Just my .02 worth.

John you are going to screw up if you do. Trust me. The mass looking for stuff like that now want that real patina. You have 1000's trying to fake it and you already have it. Converter and clear will turn the rust very dark and you will know it's not natures path any longer.
