Which Harley is the best?
I've always wanted a harley Davidson. Rode dirt bikes since I was little. Found an 83 FLHT for sale. Talked to a buddy and he said that the older bikes were kind of hard to resale unless its a real good deal.
Is there a certain mileage that a person needs to rebuild th engine or any other parts? I've heard the older harleys vibrated nuts and bolts loose? Anything I should steer clear of? Not sure if I can hold a big bike up.

Quite the opposite actually. While the whole market is down right currently, the older bikes are currently holding their value a little better. You can't give away Evo bikes right now...

Re: Which Harley is the best?
I was thinking about buying a older one to build but when I inquired about building the older motors I was told to find a Evo and newer to mess with,I was told you can only get around 96 cubes out of the older motors. I went from enduros to the Superglide and was concerned about the weight difference but it was nothing to worry about, still thinking about stepping up to a touring but concerned it will still hurt my back on long trips so I ight just stick with four wheels.

Save your money and buy a late model Triumph. Just put gas in it and ride it like you stole it. You can buy brand new for what a Harley cost used and I never had anyone walk up and say "Wow! Is that a Harley?" I know it's not American, but our cousins across the pond are building great bikes these days.

I do like the older triumphs. My buddy had one last year. I should of bought it but didn't have the money. I'll see if I can find a picture.

This is a cool bike! Not meant for long distance unless you are still young, dumb and recover quickly.

Re: Which Harley is the best?
I ride a 93' Police Special and other than a bum factory INA cam bearing that cost me a grand in parts, it has been a really good bike. I have had alot of bikes over the years and have enjoyed them all but I just like the feel and sound of my Harley. It will be my last bike because it's paid for lol.

Re: Which Harley is the best?
Thats like asking which one of my kids I love more...lol It all depends on what style of riding you plan on doing... Engine wise, yhea EVO's are cheap and plentiful, Twin Cams are fine after you replace the cam follower, or just put gear drive cams. Shovel heads Are like Iron head sportsters, its a love heat relationship. Pan heads same deal. If you find a cheap Knucklehead, buy it and love it, never sell it. If you wanna just show up at the bar and look like everyother (BEEP, just buy you a big dog, kinda wannabe harley, they sold new for 30+k and I just picked up one for $6800 that had less than 10k miles on it.. We parted it out and did real well on it..
Re: Which Harley is the best?
Thanks for the info everyone. When I worked for a local late model salvage yard when I was in high school and college, I learned real quick what vehicles to avoid. I didn't know if harleys were the same. Keeping my eye out for one.
