Re: Bastard U Joint for a 8.5 to a 7.5
Does anyone have the part number for a adaptor U joint that will mate a mid 70's turbo 350 driveshaft with a 1310 to a 3RL going to a later model 7.5 rearend. Hope that made sence.
I have stopped at all the local parts stores and they are lost. I have bought them before but these young kids don't know how to look stuff up on their fancy computer. If anyone has a part number to a U joint that KOI, Advance, or Autozone sells would help a ton. I could find a Napa too if you have one they sell. Anyplace local.

Universal joints. One side will fit a 350 turbo and the other side will fit a 7.5 rearend. Most of the time if you look at a universal joint the 4 round caps are the same size and length. On a bastard joint two of them are bigger than the other two.

Re: Bastard U Joint for a 8.5 to a 7.5
Let's put it like this. Your full size truck.. If you rip the rearend out and replace it with a smaller one like out of an S10 your driveshaft will no longer fit 'cause the U joints on your big driveshaft will not fit on the little S10 rearend. You have to get U joints that fit the S10 rearend. But now the S10 u joints are too small for your bigger drive shaft. U have to have the best of both worlds. A U joint that will fit the little S10 rearend but also fit the bigger driveshaft. That is when you get a Bastard joint.

If that won't get you there, go to a bearing supply. If you have the measurements of what you want, those guys are usually pretty dang good at coming up with it. They might not know jack about cars but they know bearings, u-joints, chains and power transfer stuff.
