1966 Mustang 2+2 Fastback build
C-code 289, 4 speed, needs some loving, but all there, runs and drives...motor knocking a bit...I am pulling it out and installing a 302 I have sitiing here...Not doing much to it other than that this year, I want to work on mamas 57-59 and my Falcons, but I will be able to hop in and drive it and have fun with it in 2010....tear down in 2011 and redo it.....Anybody got any 64-65-66 Mustang parts.....stole it from Paducah, Ky...PO owned it darn near 30 years, his dad gave it to him when he was 16.....

Leave her just as she sits, shackles, Keystones and all. Make sure you have a killer Spark-O-Matic 8 track stereo under the dash and you'll be the coolest guy in your senior class!
Looks good John.....

my wife is GREAT....I met her at a car show...her in that 72 Nova SS.....driving right in the middle of all of us Falcon guys.....Love that gal!
Re: 1966 Mustang 2+2 Fastback build
Been sitting to long, now the banger is running, I pushed it to the side till my grill and gas tank get here, and put the Mustang front and center....Will have it running by the end of the week...should be drivable as it was before the bolts came out....
Re: 1966 Mustang 2+2 Fastback build
WELL...dude who sold me the 5.0 is a big fat liar!! Motor has more blow by, than ANY running motor I have ever seen....I do have another, so I guess this week, I will be pulling it out, and switching it out....Good news is I only got screwed out of $250 dollars.......

Re: 1966 Mustang 2+2 Fastback build
Wow, that's a bummer. Can you just dump the 289 back in since the knock was an easy fix?

I have the other 5.0L, I will just clean it up, paint it up, and install it.....
Re: 1966 Mustang 2+2 Fastback build
well, the 5.0L OUT....stripped off the pans, timing cover and all, thanks to Fel-Pro for that slick 1 peice oil pan gasket, not using the 85 Alum, factory intake on it this time, got a Edelbrock sitting around, goint to use it....work a little easier this week, maybe get it back in by the end of the week....

Re: 1966 Mustang 2+2 Fastback build
I've done the loose flywheel thing- on my own iron thank god. And on a 351 in a Mustang no less! Yeah that makes a lot of racket.
Not near as much racket as a diesel someone changed the oil on, not realizing the old filter gasket was on the block still, screwed the new filter over top of it, 5 minutes later it developed a rather large set of ventilation holes where 2 rods came through the side of the block. Hit the right side of the block hard enough to kick the starter motor off the side of it. Sad but true, one of my commercial customers just did that to himself- now thats a bad day, start out doing maintenance, end up doing a motor swap. And it's tough to find a JD 450 engine used!
