Just the tought of having a used car salesman judge my truck turns my stomach, but the money definately goes to a good cause.

"Mike Castrucci of Alexandria will hold a car show on Sept. 19 9 a.m. - 9 p.m. to benefit the Campbell County High School Project Graduation. Awards will be given to the top 50 vehicles. The day will also include a live broadcast by 103.5 FM, door prizes and a split-the-pot raffle."

"An Alexandria auto dealership and Campbell County High School have teamed up to use the draw of show cars to help get the most mileage out of an alcohol and drug-free graduation party.

The first ever Mike Castrucci of Alexandria Car Show will be at the dealership, 7400 Alexandria Pike, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 19.

Proceeds will benefit the annual high school Youth Service Center-sponsored "Project Grad," a party after graduation at Town & Country Sports and Health Club in Wilder.

The money raised helps to buy prizes ranging from iPods to $150 and $100 gas station cards, said Linda Bates, coordinator of the Youth Service Center.

"The better the prizes, the better the participation rate," she said.

Student participation in Project Grad was up by 12 percent from the previous year for the Class of 2010, with 186 students in attendance, Bates said.

There's a high level of interest in the event, so much so that parents and students successfully petitioned the School Based Decision Making council to switch from an after-prom event to an after-graduation event two years ago, said Pam Huff, assistant coordinator of the Youth Service Center.

"It's still a drug-free/alcohol-free fun event for all night," Huff said of Project Grad.

For prom, Huff said she works to bring in people, including a representative from Mothers Against Drunk Driving, to speak to students before the prom about the risks of underage drinking.

From the car show, the school's Project Grad program will receive the $10 car registration fees and half of a split-the-pot proceeds. Any type of vehicle is welcome. Registration is from 9 a.m. to noon.

"We open it up to everything," said Ron Burke, director of fixed operations for Mike Castrucci. "Our judging tends to favor vehicles that people have built."

In addition to the show being on the Mike Castrucci lot, the company is also donating all of the prize money for the car competition.

First place receives $300, $200 for second place and $100 for third place. The first 75 car entries will receive dash plaques and there are typically five specialty trophies for unique and one-of-a-kind vehicles, Burke said.

Parkview Market will be providing the food and beverages he said.

For information about the car show call Mike Castrucci of Alexandria at 448-2401."
