ford 2n tractor
I don't know if it is ok to post the progress of my ford 2n tractor. Another side project that I have. I bought the tractor out of northern TN. The guy that I bought it from said that it might possibly be a government tractor. The tractor does have green paint that looks like the original. The guy said he inherited the tractor from his grandfather and he remembered when he was a kid that the tractor had amber headlight lenses. he drained the oil and filled the engine to keep it from getting stuck. I got the tractor home and sure enough the engine was stuck. . So I drained all the fluid. I started bolting the head and at the very last bolt snapped off. After spraying pb blaster over the studs I finally was able to pull the head off. Two cxylinders had some light corrosion.
I talked to the guy who built my dad's chevelle engine and he was starting his shop back up. So I pulled the front end off and pulled the engine.

Re: ford 2n tractor
Engine pulled.
I talked to Kevin who is working on the engine and he finally got the engine tore apart. The engine spun a rod bearing. The crank is going to have to be sent off. He said that the engine has been built before. But that doesn't surprise me. He also said the engine had adjustable lifetrs, A plus. Sending the crank out soon.

She apart... I need to work on mine but just don't seem to have time to mess with it. Mine is leaking fluid where the steering arms comes out of the case. Mine is an old Massey but it's set up just like a 8N

Re: ford 2n tractor
Worked on the tractor some more this week.
Pulled the lift arms off, pto shaft, seat and hydraulic pump. The push button starter plate broke on the inside, so I'll have to replace that.

Re: ford 2n tractor
I pulled the rear wheels, axle shafts, drums and backing plates. I also pulled the bottom part of the hydraulic pump. Going to pull the rear fenders off and axle housings so I can clean inside the housings.

The old oil didn't smell. Wasn't too bad. No rust, just sludge.

Re: ford 2n tractor
Cleaned the housing outs. Put both axle housing back on. Took the axle shafts to the local tractor dealership to have new outer grease seals installed. Had to torch the bearings in order to get the new seals on. Also installed inner grease seals. Right axle shaft was installed today. Been cleaning the hydraulic pump and misc parts.

Re: ford 2n tractor
They must have made a zillion of them as I see them everywhere and I dont think too many were scrapped,I think you can get a bunch of parts for them at tractor supply.

Re: ford 2n tractor
I've installed the original engine that has been rebuilt. Bought a new exhaust/intake manifold. The steering column had a hole in the top plate or I took the column off a parts tractor and started tearing it apart today. I would of directly swapped the two but the good column housing had sloppy gears. Flipped it over when I got it off and found out. It was a little wore out. You see how much the teeth were worn.

Re: ford 2n tractor
I'd like to go through mine. It wasn't even started this summer.
I should sell it but I keep thinking I may get out of the city and back in the wood and would need it. I guess it's fine where it is. It's not eating anything.

Re: ford 2n tractor
You better atleast start it up and run it for a while. I didn't do that on two vehicles with efi and the pumps went bad. An old man that rebuilds my carbs said that if they set for 2 years that the carbs dity up and it won't run like it should. Its not bad working on the tractor with the hood and gas tank off. I have some plans to do some stuff to it once I get it together and running. It you tear into yours or have problems, call me. I've taken theis tractor apart completely and should know how it all works. lol.

Re: ford 2n tractor
Got the steering column put back together, painted and installed on the tractor. Also pianted some of the front axle parts. Bought a wheel bearing kit from the dealership. Actually cheaper than ordering seals out of a catalog. Need to order a few parts.
