Prayers needed for John B
Everyone keep John Bailey from the Carter County Cruisers CC in your prayers. Just got word that they put him in an induced coma to try to figure out what is going on with him.

I do not know what to say and I am in shock. Do you know what hospital he is in Reb?
My thoughts and Prayers are with John and his family and may the Good Lord Bless, Guide and help you and your family through this difficult time.

Re: Prayers needed for John B
This is a copy of what Maw Baileys statement in the Carter County Cruisers website about John's condition:
Maw Baileys statements:
There are a lot of you that are not on my Facebook page, so will put down all that has happened over the last few weeks.
April 26th, 9:51pm Sunday
I took John to the E.R. this morning, as he wasn't much better. He was still running a temperature and it seems like the antibiotics just aren't doing their job. They did several labs plus a spinal tap to check for menengitis. They said he didn't have acute sinusitis like was first thought. They did find some pneumonia in his right lung. This evening they did a cat scan of his lungs. They are keeping him over night for observation. We won't know anything until tomorrow. (If then.)
May 3, 2015 Sunday
John was transferred to King's Daughters in Ashland on Friday. On Saturday they put a camera down his throat and checked the back of his heart. The heart doctor said it looked good. They put him in a “Rollo Prone Bed”. It is a bed that holds him in place with foam pillows straped around him. The bed slowly rotates from one side to the other to make it easier on his lungs. They have managed to wean him down on the ventilator from 100 to 65. I pray it keeps coming down until he can breathe on his own. He has pneumonia in both lungs. At this time they are waiting for all the lab work to come back to determine exactly what it is that is causing this. We are pleased with the care KDMC has provided for him and have confidence in the doctors and nurses that are tending to him. All we can do for him right now is pray.

I am at home. I went up one night and stayed all night, but there is no reason for me to stay all night. He can't talk, and he is wrapped up like a cocoon. The hospital calls if there is a change, and I call them every day to see if he has made any progress. They have managed to get his oxygen from 65% down to 55%. That means a lot.

Update on John: Lynn and I went to see John today. We were pleasantly surprised to see they had put him on his back and took off part of the covering on his head to where we could see his face. His oxygen level had gone from 55% to 45%. His creatins in his kidneys had come down some, so they didn't have to do dialysis. They gave him a unit of blood because his blood was striving so hard to fight the infection in his lungs. We found out the cultures had been sent to the Mayo Clinic and the findings were Histoplasmosis. That is caused from being around bird or bat droppings. They say the Ohio Valley soil is full of it. We don't know where he got it. He still has pneumonia in both lungs. We don't know if the pneumonia was already there that caused his immune system to be low and he got it that way, or if the Histoplasmosis caused the pneumonia. The doctors tell us that most people who get histoplasmosis don't even realize they have it. They think it is a cold. We also know it can effect the eyes.
All of this is good news, but we know not to get too happy, because there is always a chance of a set back. I am just thankful to God for all the little steps he has been making. We are asking that no one try to see him. We have it set up right now that only family can see him. I just don't think John would want anyone to see him in this shape. Thank you.
May 7, 2015 Thursday
I finally got hold of the hospital today. They had some wonderful news. He is out of the rollo prone bed and in a regular bed. They must have brought him out of the paralitic state to some degree, because the nurse said he squeezed her hand. Praise God! His oxygen level is at 40%. Down by another 5%. They may 'try' to take the vent off tomorrow. She said they aren't going to rush it. I wish I had more, but I am happy with what she has told me. We can only pray that he continues to do good.

Re: Prayers needed for John B
Message from John's Mom:
Sunday, May 10, 2015
I called the hospital this afternoon. They said they wouldn't try to take him off the ventilator today. John is about the same. He is in a bed in another ICCU room, but he is still on the ventilator. I talked to his nurse today. She said they are trying to wean his sedation down and trying to talk to him and calm him down. I think the idea is to let him gradually get used to the fact that he is going to have to help them take the tubes out of his lungs and stomach. They say the patient has to be able to gag in order to help. It seems slow, but it will come to pass when the good Lord and John are ready.

That's great that he's breathing on his own again. I was on a ventilator a couple of times and found it hard to have something do your breathing.

Re: Prayers needed for John B
They have him wearing a oxygen mask and it's making him upset because he can hardly talk. Eva can't hardly understand him. He still can't do much. He's lost movement in his arms and legs but they are working with him. It may take some time to get him back up and going but he's doing better than a few days ago.

When John's Mom told us earlier that he was diagnosed with histoplasmosis, I know first hand what this infection does to a person. I was diagnosed with histoplasmosis in 1976 when I was stationed at Ft. Campbell. I was in the hospital for 3 1/2 months. The good thing about this infection is medical technology has came a long way since the 70's. I also lost movement in all my limbs because I layed on my back for such an extended period of time. It took me almost a month of therapy to feel my arms and legs again. From where John came from 3 weeks ago, he has improved so much more than I did.
Thank you for the update Reb

John is doing really well everyone. The Dr's are talking about letting him go home either tomorrow or Friday. He has been eating on his own as well as walking. Fantastic news!

Re: Prayers needed for John B
Thank each and everyone of you for the thoughts and prayers.
It's been a long hard pull and I have a ways to go. With that said it seems I'm the current miracle boy at KDMC. One doctor kept reminding me that I had a 35% chance of recovery.
The medical staff there are top notch.
