Re: 1968 Ford Truck, Cledus
I took the truck over to Ludlow, Ky today. Kirk works there and he is the one who had the truck years ago. I walked in and the owner ask if the truck was for sale. I said no and ask where Kirk was. He said is Kirk buying it? No, he use to own it. He smiled and said I know I tried to buy that truck when he had it. Another guy follows me back and ask what I gave for it. I told him and he offered a few 100 more than I gave. I smiled and kept walking.
I walk in and Kirk looks at me funny. I told him I have this old Ford I want him to look at. He smiles and says I don't know anything about cars! We start walking out and he seen the truck.
He freaked me out. He starts yelling.. THAT'S MY TRUCK! THAT'S MY TRUCK! He had a smile ear to ear. He opened the hood, got in the driver seat and played with stuff for a while. It was really cool to watch him. He look ed at the speedo and said he didn't drive it much. I told him Bill didn't drive it at all. I put almost 150 miles on it in 2 days. He gave me some history on the truck and I think it just made him feel good that he knows someone's got it and going to fix it up.

Re: 1968 Ford Truck, Cledus
Starks had a couple that still had mint dash pads,a friend got one but dont know if any are still left since its been a few years. We found them in trucks that were missing a door or window so I guess the heat did not build up and crack them,I have a tailgate that looks to be rust free if you need one. Bought it for the 66 but has slight differences, found a correct tailgate and used it.

It's not unusual for those gates to rust out. Kind of like those Chevy beds of yesteryear.

I would give aything to have my '68 back. I love those styles. Whats your plan ... stock, lower (stinking I-beams), or raise it?

Haven't given it much thought yet on what it will become. The carb junked out on it yesterday. Float stuck and dumped gas all over. I have to work out the bugs and get some miles under it's shoes to really make up my mind on what I'm going to do with it.

Re: 1968 Ford Truck, Cledus
Sorry to hear that, Steve. You going to stick with a rebuild on it or upgrade?

Re: 1968 Ford Truck, Cledus
Right now I just don't have too much time to worry about the truck. I'm hoping I can get by without spending too much money on it to keep it going. If it starts costing me cash that I don't have it will have to sold off or parked until I get moved. My main goal right now is to get out of this house.Nanook wrote:Sorry to hear that, Steve. Re: 1968 Ford Truck, Cledus
I ripped the carb apart hoping I could just clean it up. It has a brass float and I thought maybe it got a pin hole in it and filled with gas. It was fine. I was playing with the float and seen the needle and seat didn't seem right. I pulled it apart and this green dried up goop was coming in from the line and worked it's way through to the seat before getting hard. Not sure what it is but I got it out of there and soaked the needle and seat in cleaner.

Re: 1968 Ford Truck, Cledus
I put it back together and the truck sounded great! Better than before. I run around in it for a little while and it started loading up again. Not sure what I'm going to do now. I don't want to spend any money on a rebuilding kit right now.

Re: 1968 Ford Truck, Cledus
When I have a few minutes to play I try to do something to the truck.
These big mirrors had to go. They look like a big set of ears.
The door panels were a pain. I guess they have never been off in the last 44 years. I thought I was going to bend them up trying to get loose. They had some type of double sided tape besides all the screws.

Re: 1968 Ford Truck, Cledus
I grabbed some wipers. I also had to replace both headlights. I lost a dim early so I just run the brights. I lost both bright, one at a time within days and so I just had one dim light. I thought Bill said he replaced them but the backs where covered in 44 years of dust. I spent the extra cash and bought the extra bright lights. I like to see at night!
It's funny how some nice headlights and new wipers will let you see.

Put a inline filter before the fuel pump to catch most of the crap that is in the tank.

The mirrors are nice but the metal was all rusty and someone cleaned them up and shot the white paint on them. You can have them f you want but they are rough.

Re: 1968 Ford Truck, Cledus
You will miss those mirrors when you have it loaded up and cant see out the rear window, they were also available in stainless and I might have a set. My 66 has the version that sticks out a little more and they are not coming off,I was hoping to find a stainless set but I dont think they were made in stainless until after 67.
