Life On The Highway

I found a series of vintage photos published by Life Magazine in or around 1948,
I say that because most of the license plates are from 1948, which gave me the
idea of posting photos of cars, trucks, motorcycles, people, animals or whatever
use your imagination that might be related to things on the highways.
U.S. Route 30 (US 30) is an east–west main route of the system of United States Numbered Highways, with the highway traveling across the northern tier of the country. It is the third longest U.S. route, after U.S. Route 20 and U.S. Route 6. The western end of the highway is at Astoria, Oregon; the eastern end is in Atlantic City, New Jersey. Despite long stretches of parallel and concurrent Interstate Highways, it has managed to avoid the decommissioning that has happened to other long haul routes such as U.S. Route 66.

Life on Hwy 30 #9, I guess this is a well equipped trunk for traveling
in the late 40's.

Try camping out by the side of a highway now a days
and in plain view, I'll bet you would have a state trooper all over you.

I remember traveling route 66 all the way to Chicago from Calif.
in 1961 with no a/c in a 1956 Chevy wagon and it wasn't that
much fun so I can't imagine what it must have been like in a
pick up like this with most likely no creature comforts at all.

What a nightmare, your car breaks down, you run out of gas, there's
no gas station in sight and cell phones haven't been invented yet
and probably no one will stop and help you because you've painted
your car like some circus vehicle, half one color and the other half
a different color. I'd say your SOL unless you have the Auto Club.

I think this is a 1948 Frazer Manhattan.
