Re: Broken Wing Project. The 'Bird
I'd keep the side marker lights.
Those air dams on the front & rear I might consider yanking. I had a '75 TA I bought new & I hated those things. The Formula was a lot cleaner looking. I did like the shaker hood scoop on the TA, but you've gone way beyond that with the Tunnel Ram.

I have a can down stair I bought back before it was easy to get. I never used it. I like it on some stuff. Just matters the car.

Re: Broken Wing Project. The 'Bird
I thought about smoothing out everything. Flares, chin spoiler, door handles and locks. I have the car ripped down doing body work now. I took the rear flares off and it freaked me out. The tires look HUGE with them gone. I kept going from angle to angle trying to justify yanking them. At this time they will go back on. If I ever get to mini tub it I may but for now those 10" wide tire look out of place without the flares.Z-YOU wrote:I'd keep the side marker lights.

Re: Broken Wing Project. The 'Bird
It's funny. I've never been afraid to cut a car up. Chopping tops, 4 door to 2 door conversions, Smoothing door handle, firewalls or whatever. I love to fab metal and make it do stuff it doesn't want to do. But it's a little scary to chop on the Bird.Butch Thompson wrote:modifications make awsum looks and rides what ever u doo it l loook good

You don't have to chop on the bird. Why if you take the handles off and the lenses out all you need is bondo. It might take you a gallon or two to fill the holes... but then if you want to put it back you can. Just chip it away and reinstall the door handle. I've heard that's how all the "pros" do mods to their cars.

I got ya but I'm not one to use too much mud. It will be all welded up if I do it.

Re: Broken Wing Project. The 'Bird
Steve, with the right wheel offset, a 10" tire will fit won't it?
Handles, schmandels, my question is: Windshield wipers, YES or NO?

Nothing really fancy here, just a quick cover up to get an idea.
I really like the look of it with the front marker lights gone.

Re: Broken Wing Project. The 'Bird
Offset if 4.5 and with the tire side wall swell I only have 1/2 clearence to the leaf spring. They are making a offset spring hanger kit but you have to trim 1/4 of your frame all the way from the front perch to the rear shackle. I'm not wanting to get into that just for a few more inches. If I go that route I will mini tub it to sit a 13'"wide foot print tire within the wheel wells.Z-YOU wrote:Steve, with the right wheel offset, a 10" tire will fit won't it?

I'm thing about going with a set of 18X9.5's for the back with a 4.5" backspace with Nitto 555 295-45-18. Those are still a little too wide and if the car ever dipped the wheel well lip past the top of the tire they may rub.
No winshield wipers. I run with Rin X .ol

That wasn't aimed at you Butch. I agree the Nova looks cleaner w/o the wipers. Just seems like the first rule of hotrodding is no windshield wipers. I never saw anything Boyd Coddington built on that TV show that had wipers. With me, being as everything I have is for general purpose daily driving, I can't be w/o wipers. If it's mostly for appearance and effect and only driven for limited pleasure use, it makes perfect sense.

Re: Broken Wing Project. The 'Bird
Body work is slow going. I'm not in any rush. It may not see sun light untill next spring. I order the front rims and I may yank the motor out so I can detail and do some work on the firewall. Ol' bird looks funny with the flares and spoiler gone. Just stripped off for body work.

The 1/4 mile stuff will all go. It will be set up for running on the open road. I want to take a long trip in it soon so I'm setting it up to be able to to. A mix of muscle, sports car and pro touring all wrapped up in one package.

Re: Broken Wing Project. The 'Bird
If all goes right it will have two 70mm turbos on the same engine combo I have now. That's what I'm shooting for by next spring anyways.hp77skylark wrote:Are you leaving the ram set up on the bird?

Re: Broken Wing Project. The 'Bird
I can put a cage in it. All my metal stuff back on it. front bumper fenderwells ect. ect. Load it full of weight. It won't matter with the turbo set up. It will have gobbs of torque. Loose the big cam for a mild one. Loose the 4200 stall. It will still have twice the power it has now and idle comfortably with AC on and still be able to get down the road if I want to spool the turbos up. Switch to a 308 gear or leave the 342's and put in a 700R or a late model 5 speed in to cruise.
