Re: 1947 Plymouth Special Deluxe
Well I've been playing with photo shop. I chopped and channelled this my car. I'm looking at 2" out of the top and 4" out of the body and lowering it by getting rid of the rockers and bringing the bottom of the car to the bottom of the doors. What do you guys think have I lost my mind and Do you got any ideas on how to do this.

That thing looks awful long in the picture. Almost like Jeff's old Limo.

Wow, that is long. Is there a third row seat? Kind of looks like it in the pic.

Re: 1947 Plymouth Special Deluxe
The roof on it makes it one of the harder chops. It's easier to drop the back of the roof into the car than do traditional chops like we did at the work session in my garage. Hard to type easier to show. It could be done.
Loosing the rockers is not a good idea. I get why you are doing it but you won't gain anything from it. The rockers are hiding your frame. So cutting them off will not get you any lower and you will see the frame from the bottom. If you were to channel the floor and frame and sit it up into the car 4 inches it would be okay. Problem is with a raised floor and a chop top you will be able to give yourself a BJ by the time you get done driving it. You will be leaning over to far. It only gets worse with a section out of the body.
Now to the section part. I have been wanting to do this to something for a long time. It can be done and look right if you don't get to crazy. Problem areas will be the door jams. Again we run into problem areas two more times due to the back doors.
I'm game to help if you want to do anything. I wouldn't do it all at one time. Chop it and section it later or vise versa. By the time you get done welding one or the other you will need a vacation.

Re: 1947 Plymouth Special Deluxe
I think I definitly want to do the section. And after looking at it I agree with you about the rockers. I was thinking more along the lines of letting the bottoms of the doors cover up where the rockers would be. Like how it is on a lot of new cars but I think it would just be better to rebuild them. Now I just need to come up with a good time to do this. I need to totally gut the car and get some metal to brace the inside both above and below where the cut will be. I don't want the body to start folding up like a pretzel. lol
Here's some pictures of what the car would look like with just a chop and just a section

Re: 1947 Plymouth Special Deluxe
I just went and sat in the car taking 6 inches total out of it with out going with a lower seat (which with the way it sits wouldn't be to hard to do) should still leave an inch above my head. and I don't think the doors will be that hard. There pretty straight up and down except for the outside body curve.

Re: 1947 Plymouth Special Deluxe
If you're still going to cut it, I'd do the chop. The section only gives it a top heavy look. Good on women, bad on cars.

Re: 1947 Plymouth Special Deluxe
well I still want to do both. I just think that I wan't to do the section first. To me that seems like the harder one to do. I would hate to put a lot of effort in to chopping the top the start on the body ruin it. Though I did see a picture where some one turned a two door in to a roadster and it looked pretty good. In all my looking I still haven't come across one that was sectioned. Atleast not that I could tell.

Re: 1947 Plymouth Special Deluxe
Okay this should be the last picture I upload until I start gutting and cutting the car. I played with it some more in photoshop. This time I tried to make the chop and section to actual dimensions. I based it off the side molding which I know is and inch and a half. I chopped the top 2 inches and the body is four and a half. I'm really liking the way this looks. I tried to move the sections around the way I would actually cut them. Which showed me that the rear of the roof is definitely going to be hard and I'm probably going to have to shape some metal to make everything work but I definitely think its doable.
Final Visualization.

As My Dad says.....Its like a monkey trying to F@#$ a football. Those curves can get away from you. Keep the pic. going while you chop! We got a 38 chevy coupe that I want to take 2" out of but have not cut yet

Re: 1947 Plymouth Special Deluxe
Man, I think I'd put a later model V8 and auto in it and fix the body up and just drive it. Some years ago there were some guys that cruised one like that with a solid body and good chrome but it needed paint. It had a 426 HEMI and a Torqueflite in it. The interior was done in some wild fabric but the thing sounded awesome. I saw it at Columbuse and Indianapolis a couple of years in a row. It was always on the move with at least 4 guys in it. I'll try to find the pics but it'll take time.

I think I'm with Doug on this one. Put a "modern" ( you know '68 or '69 ) drive line and disc brakes on it. Take some Comet and wax to it. Drive it like you stole it. Then let everyone else argue about wether it qualifies as a ratrod or hot rod.

Well the other motor I was thinking of was a 440. I think I'm going to get the body fixed up. And just keep my eyes open for a good deal on a motor.

Re: 1947 Plymouth Special Deluxe
Cole I have a 727 Torqueflite from the first motor/trans combo I bought for the Dodge. The "good" motor turned out to be a boat anchor. I don't know anything about the trans but if you want it I'll bring it to work. It's just taking up space here.
