Re: Scroungers C.C. 1964 Falcon Drag Car
I'm stuck in the central part of Arizona.....I never know what's available in other parts of the country. 351W's are plentiful here. I have found in the last 7 years an abundance of "X" blocks. Very strong and seasoned. High nickel content. I just acuired one for my I/O boat to replace the 302 sitting in it now. It would be nice to find a good 4bbl Cleveland for the project too. I guess you're not seeing many over there?

Re: Scroungers C.C. 1964 Falcon Drag Car
lol no I haven't seen a 351 V4 C in a long time. not even in a running car around here unless it's someones hot rod at a cruise. I guess the cars rotted away and they scrapped 'em around here. you can't hardly find anything easy around here anymore. guess it matter where you live , like you said. around 10 years ago I moved to FL for a while. I was shocked to see all the mavericks and pintos running around down there. lol I thought to myself "so this is where they all went to" lol. winter is rough on the cars around here. we are at the northern most part of Kentucky. I'm almost on the Ohio River. from my back window I can see Cincinatti Ohio. winter is not as bad as upper New York but we get our fair share. they care calling for snow in the next couple days. I guess it still pretty warm in AZ?nitrowarrior wrote:good 4bbl Cleveland for the project too. I guess you're not seeing many over there?

Re: Scroungers C.C. 1964 Falcon Drag Car
This weekend provided some much needed rain and cold temps. Yesterday was cool but got up to 68. Today it hit 75. Sometimes we have the greatest winters and other times we stand around looking at each other going WHAT???? We do have an enormous amount of salvage yards and specialty yards to get what we want in the odd builds. Prices are competitive to each other to keep business steady. Good help on the hot lines too so you don't have to run around looking. You can go righ to the yard that has your stuff.

Re: Scroungers C.C. 1964 Falcon Drag Car
My brother Kevin, Steve, and myself did the final measurements, installed the spring bushings and bolts and finished up by welding everything. The Falcon is sitting pretty good right now, we are ready to move onto the next, step engine installation. Once we get the cherry picker we can move forward in this department, does anybody have a old turbo 350 we can use for mock up, can be an empty case, dowes not need to be a complete trans....Were moving along, one step at a time its really starting to pull together, thanks again to all who have donated parts to this project, and donated time.
Re: Scroungers C.C. 1964 Falcon Drag Car
I just got a junk 350 turbo for mock up. I'm in the middle of ripping the guts out of it now. it cost me $5.00 and 2 soda pops from the junkman, Kenny.

Re: Scroungers C.C. 1964 Falcon Drag Car
I got the trans gutted, cleaned up and painted. no I don't like greasy parts. lol .
we have a mock up trans now. this should be good for making the cross member, driveshaft length and how much the tunnel will have to be cut for the bellhousing to clear. we are still in need of a good turbo 350 so if anyone finds a good one, cheap let me know. Cole may have one but we haven't had time to look yet.

Re: Scroungers C.C. 1964 Falcon Drag Car
OOOOHHHHHHHHHH Pretty color red, it should go good with the oil stanied floor in my gargage..
Re: Scroungers C.C. 1964 Falcon Drag Car
Ryan and Jonathan stopped in today and started ripping the 350 apart to see what we have to work with. Corey joined in and got greasy too. before we got started we had problems. 2 of the flywheel bolts rounded off. we tried everything. heat, different sockets, beating the next size smaller one on, vise grips and so on. I was about ready to grind the heads off when we figured we would weld a junk wrench on it. between the heat and welded wrench they came loose.
I'm happy to say the the walls looked outstanding. they should clean up nice with just a hone and will not need bored. the bottom end is still buttoned up so I can't say how the crank looks yet. so far so good though.
